With the development of the web, there are lots of websites emerging everyday. Many go into the trash. Some make it to the top of the world. It is human nature that, if anything goes successful, everyone would like to try it out. The same happens with websites.

Some of the most popular websites are YouTube, Digg, del.icio.us, MySpace and Ebay.

Now everyone would like to own sites like that. And yes, it is possible. You can have those sites for few bucks or even for free.

1) YouTube

YouTube is a social video sharing site. Users can upload and share videos online with YouTube. YouTube is currently owned by Google.

You can roll your own YouTube site by using this script. Its just $40. But if you are purchasing it, you are just losing your 40 bucks.

People are not just going to upload videos into your site when there is YouTube. If you'd like people to show interest in your site too, you must be having something different and unique on your site. For eg, 6 Rooms is a youtube like site. Yet, it is popular, because it is a site targeted to Chinese audience. China forms the majority of world's population. So naturally people from china would like 6 Rooms rather than YouTube.

2) Digg

Digg is a Social Bookmarking website. It was started a year or two back and now it is one of the most popular websites on the web.

Everyone had wanted to run their own Digg site. It get even crazy when you can run it for free.
Yeah, i told "free". Pligg is a open source software allowing you to run a Digg Clone.

It is the same case. You should have something different to achieve success. Dealigg is one successful Digg Clone.

3) del.icio.us

Unlike Digg, del.icio.us allows both social and personal bookmarking. It is owned by Yahoo. del.icio.us seems to be one of the easiest web apps. However there are not many del.icio.us clone scripts.

One famous project is Scuttle.
There are lots of del.icio.us clone site which can be found here.

4) MySpace

MySpace ranks 5 according to Alexa. And yes it is the most popular social network site.
There are some pretty cool MySpace scripts available. Some are phpFoX, Our Space etc..
But it take something different to achieve success. Your Christian Space is one successful site powered by phpFoX. Its successful because it specially targets Christians.

5) Ebay

Last, but not the least, Ebay is another big site which makes millions per day. Here, its not possible to launch an Ebay clone with country specific audience. Because Ebay itself is available in many countries. But you can target different audience by narrowing the types of goods that are listed. One well known Ebay clone is AJ Auction. There are not many Ebay clone sites which have been successful. The reason is pretty clear. Unlike the above 4 websites, Ebay types sites require monetary action from the user end.

However, uBid is a pretty successful Auction site. The reason is the commission rates vary from that of Ebay. uBid offers Google Checkout, where as Ebay does not.

So these are the most common businesses that do not yield profits to people anymore. And since we have seen this now. We will soon see 5 websites that yield profits, whatever happens.

Stay Tuned !
